Information on Greywater Recycling?

I live in Nevada, where it is really dry. I figured a greywater recycling system would be great for my area, especially to try to keep my water bill down.
So how expensive is it to install greywater recycling systems, how hard is it to do it yourself, and is it really worth it (am I going to save money on my water bill and how long would it take to “pay for itself”)?

The Wikipedia article below has an interesting discussion about greywater. It states that recycling greywater has the potential to save about 30% of your water bill

If you are building new residence and installing a Greywater System it should not cost that much to install.. for a house probably in the neighborhood of $10K. (BTW That is a wild ass educated guess..so take for what it is..)

Retrofitting may be a bit more difficult. you need to separate water from sinks, showers, washing machines, etc. from toilet water. this may entail a lot of work if all the piping is combined and inside walls. You may need a filter/settling tank and a pump to pump the water back up to the toilets.

One other thing: in many US jurisdictions recycling greywater in a home is actually illegal — or at least against building codes so.

BTW. recycling Rainwater and stormwater is very simple and easy.. but it is not really greywater recycling.
