How do I buy RECs and what are the environmental benefits of doing so?

I live in an area where my power company does not sell Green Energy so I was wondering about this. If I buy this do I still have to buy energy from my power company? Are there tax incentives for doing this? Any and all the information you have will be helpful. Thanks.

Yes you will still need to buy power from your power company if you want any.
No tax incentives that I know of.
The whole point of REC’s are to support Renewable Energy projects enough to make them profitable so more might be built. Eventually, with economy of scale, renewable power projects will become cheap(er) than/as fossil fuel power.
